I’m Kerry, a British wedding photographer based near Pézenas in Hérault. I photograph weddings in Montpellier and throughout the surrounding region, from intimate city celebrations to château, vineyard and private-estate weddings in the countryside.
My photographs are about the people, the place and the feeling of the day. I document what naturally happens, give gentle direction when it is helpful and make sure you spend your wedding with the people you invited, not trapped in a long photo shoot.
Wedding photography that lets you stay in your wedding
A wedding is a social event. The photographs should show more than how everything looked.
I am watching for the hug immediately after the ceremony, the expression on your father’s face, the friend laughing before the punchline and the small exchanges happening around the edges of the obvious moments. I want you to remember the atmosphere and the people who were there, not just the flowers and table settings.
Most of the day is photographed quietly as it unfolds. I step in when direction will genuinely help, particularly for group photographs and couple portraits, but I do not continually interrupt or recreate events for the camera.
My portraits have a romantic, classical quality, but they are not stiff or heavily staged. I normally work with the couple for five to fifteen minutes at a time, using the venue, landscape and best available light. You get beautiful portraits without losing the drinks reception or leaving your guests wondering where you have gone.

Getting married in Montpellier or Hérault
A wedding described as being “in Montpellier” may not be in the city itself.
It might take place at a vineyard outside Montpellier, an old stone estate towards Pézenas, a private house in the countryside or a château elsewhere in Hérault. These locations may appear together in the same search, but the travel, light and practical demands can be quite different.
Being based near Pézenas means I am within easy reach of Montpellier and many of the wedding venues across central Hérault. I understand the local roads, summer heat, strong afternoon light and the distances that can exist between accommodation, preparations, the ceremony and the reception.
Wedding venues near Montpellier I know
The Montpellier area includes an extraordinary range of wedding settings. I have photographed celebrations in historic buildings, vineyards, countryside estates and private homes throughout Hérault.
Mas Saint Germain
Mas Saint Germain is a private countryside estate near Montpellier, surrounded by olive groves, woodland and open land. It has space for the wedding to unfold naturally, with very different settings available as the light changes throughout the day.
Château de Pouget
I photographed a lively Jewish wedding at Château de Pouget, including an outdoor ceremony, drinks reception, speeches and energetic evening dancing. It is a good example of how I combine the setting with the movement and relationships between people.
Château de Malmont
Château de Malmont is a vineyard estate in Hérault with pale stone, open views and plenty of space for an outdoor celebration. The photographs show the full progression of the day, from preparations and ceremony through to dinner, speeches and dancing.
Abbaye de Valmagne
An Abbaye de Valmagne wedding involves a striking contrast between the scale and low light of the historic interior and the brightness of the surrounding grounds. It is exactly the kind of venue where experience with changing light makes a practical difference.

How to hire a wedding photographer in Montpellier
A beautiful Instagram feed is a useful starting point, but it does not tell you whether a photographer can document an entire wedding consistently.
Before booking anyone, look beyond the highlights.
Ask to see a complete wedding gallery
A homepage portfolio will usually contain a photographer’s strongest individual images. Ask to see a recent, complete wedding from a comparable venue or schedule.
Look at the whole day:
- Preparations in small or dark rooms
- Ceremonies in direct sun and shade
- Family group photographs
- Guests during the drinks reception
- Speeches and dinner
- Portraits in changing light
- Dancing after dark
The quieter parts matter too. A complete gallery will show whether family photographs are handled well, guests receive proper attention and the photographer can continue finding good images when the light is difficult.

Look at the people, not only the venue
Montpellier and Hérault have no shortage of beautiful buildings. Châteaux, vineyards and long tables beneath trees can make any website look impressive.
The more revealing question is how the photographer sees people.
Look for reactions, movement, relationships and the atmosphere around the couple. Are parents, grandparents, friends and children part of the story? Do people look comfortable and recognisable, or does everything feel directed for the camera?
Also look for different ages, personalities and body types. Photographing professional-looking couples in ideal light is not the same as helping real people feel relaxed.
Check how they handle southern French light
The light here can be beautiful, but it is not always gentle.
Summer ceremonies often take place in strong sun. Pale stone can reflect light while doorways and courtyards fall into deep shade. Preparations may happen in a dark room with closed shutters, followed by a ceremony outside.
A photographer should be able to explain how they will approach your ceremony time, family photographs and portraits. They should also show successful work made during the middle of the day and after dark, not only photographs taken during golden hour.
My usual approach is to keep portraits brief and work around the best available light. If the light becomes particularly beautiful later, I may suggest taking another five minutes together. You remain part of the wedding while still receiving portraits that use the setting properly.
Compare what the price actually includes
Two packages described as “full-day photography” may provide very different coverage.
One photographer might finish when dinner begins. Another may remain through the first dance or well into the evening. Travel, accommodation, albums and a second photographer might be included, optional or charged separately.
Before comparing prices, check:
- The start and finish points
- The approximate number of finished photographs
- Whether all delivered images are individually edited
- The delivery timescale
- Whether high-resolution downloads are included
- Personal printing rights
- Travel and accommodation costs
- The booking fee and payment schedule
- What happens if additional coverage is needed
- Whether tax is charged on top of the quote

Have a proper conversation
You do not need to become close friends with your wedding photographer, but you do need to feel comfortable with them.
Your photographer will be present during emotional, vulnerable and occasionally stressful parts of the day. Their manner can settle a room or add pressure to it. Strong people skills matter almost as much as technical ability.
A video call or relaxed telephone conversation is usually enough to see whether communication feels easy. The photographer should listen before recommending a package and ask about the people involved, not only the venue and timetable.
For couples planning from the UK, Ireland, the US or elsewhere, choosing an English-speaking photographer who lives in France can remove an unnecessary layer of complication. Contracts, family circumstances and timeline decisions are easier to discuss when nothing is lost in translation.

I accept a maximum of fifteen weddings each year. This gives me time to understand each celebration properly, help with the planning and edit every finished collection carefully.
An English-speaking wedding photographer in Montpellier
I am British and have lived in Hérault since 2016. Many of my couples live in the UK, Ireland, the US or elsewhere and plan their weddings in France from abroad.
You do not need to arrive with a finished photography schedule. Once I understand the venue, guest numbers and the parts of the day that matter most to you, I can help you decide when coverage should begin and finish.
I also work directly with wedding planners and venue teams when needed. My role is not to take over the planning. It is to notice where timing, travel or light could affect the photographs and help solve those problems before the wedding.

How many hours of photography do we need?
This depends on which parts of the wedding you want documented.
Some couples want photography from preparations until guests sit down for dinner. Others want speeches, the first dance and the energy of the party included.
Once I have seen your draft timetable, I can recommend a sensible start and finish point. You do not need to decide before enquiring.
Do you use a second photographer?
I photograph weddings alone. This keeps the coverage discreet and means you know exactly who will be with you on the day.
For the weddings I accept, I can document preparations, the ceremony, reception, portraits and evening celebrations without needing a second photographer. If preparations are happening simultaneously in distant locations, we will plan the timings carefully in advance.
How long will it take to receive our photographs?
Most couples receive their complete gallery within approximately one month. I also send a small preview shortly after the wedding so you have photographs to enjoy and share while I finish the full collection.
Do you photograph small weddings and elopements?
Yes. I photograph intimate weddings and elopements throughout the South of France. Shorter coverage can be created around the ceremony, portraits and time with your closest family and friends.
