Why i love shooting weddings at chateau rieutort
Château Rieutort is a relaxed and characterful wedding venue just outside Pézenas, set among vineyards, mature trees and open countryside. It has a peaceful, private feel that allows celebrations to unfold naturally, without feeling staged or hurried.
One of the highlights here is the evening light. The sunsets across the vineyards are particularly beautiful, and golden hour brings a warm glow that works perfectly for relaxed couple portraits. I often take couples for a gentle walk at this time, using the light and landscape to create images that feel natural and unforced.
The tree lined walkway is another favourite spot, offering shade and symmetry for quiet moments together. The gardens, with their fountains, statues and thoughtful planting, add variety and texture, giving plenty of options throughout the day without needing to move far.

The Setting
Château Rieutort sits in the heart of Hérault and feels more like a private home than a formal venue. Guests often comment on how welcoming and relaxed the atmosphere is, which helps everyone settle in and enjoy the celebration.
As a working vineyard, the estate is closely connected to the surrounding land. Rows of vines stretch out from the château, creating a strong sense of place that feels distinctly southern French.
Many couples choose to incorporate the estate’s wines into their celebrations, adding a personal and authentic touch to the day.
PHOTOGRAPHING WEDDINGS AT CHÂTEAU RIEUTORT
Ceremonies can take place either by the fountain framed by tall cypress trees or on the terrace in front of the château. Both options offer open views and soft, natural light, which photograph beautifully and give the ceremony a real sense of occasion.
As a Château Rieutort wedding photographer, my focus is on working quietly with the flow of the day. I capture the bigger moments as well as the smaller ones in between, while guiding gently when it helps, so the photography never takes over the celebration.
After the ceremony, guests can enjoy drinks outdoors before dinner under the stars or inside a marquee, depending on the style of the day. The flexibility of the space allows couples to shape the celebration in a way that feels right for them.
Practical Details
One of the advantages of Château Rieutort is the generous curfew, with music allowed until four in the morning. This makes it ideal for couples who want to enjoy a full evening of dancing without feeling rushed. Many celebrations continue the following day with a relaxed brunch and time spent by the pool.
The château can accommodate around sixty guests overnight across the main house and nearby cottages, keeping close friends and family together. Larger celebrations are also possible, with space for several hundred guests on the estate.
