Wedding Photographer in Occitanie

I’m Kerry Morgan, a wedding photographer in Occitanie, based near Pézenas in Hérault. I photograph weddings and elopements across Hérault, Aude, Gard and the wider South of France.

My work combines documentary storytelling with relaxed, beautifully composed portraiture. I photograph weddings as social events, noticing the movement, laughter, reactions and relationships that give each celebration its character.

I also pay close attention to place. The light, landscape and architecture of Occitanie are not simply backgrounds to the photographs. They help tell the story of where you chose to marry.

Most of the day is photographed as it unfolds. When direction is useful, I give it calmly and clearly, keeping family photographs efficient and couple portraits relaxed. Getting married in Occitanie

Occitanie offers an unusually varied setting for a wedding. There are vineyard estates, historic châteaux, old abbeys, rural domaines, private villas and stone houses surrounded by garrigue.

The region includes some polished destination wedding venues, but much of it still feels rooted in the landscape and local community. A wedding here might take place among vines near Pézenas, within the cloisters of an abbey, in the courtyard of an old château or beneath plane trees at a family home.

Many celebrations extend across an entire weekend. Guests arrive for a welcome dinner, gather for the wedding the following day and meet again around the pool or over lunch before travelling home.

This slower rhythm creates space for people to spend proper time together. It also gives the wedding a sense of place that goes beyond a single ceremony or reception.

Documentary storytelling and beautifully composed portraits

Most of a wedding cannot be planned or repeated. A look between relatives, a friend trying not to cry, a child becoming bored during the ceremony or the sudden eruption of laughter during a speech may last for only a moment.

I watch for these interactions throughout the day. I photograph what is happening at the centre of the wedding, but also what is unfolding around it.

This is where documentary photography matters. It creates a record of the people, energy and relationships that made the wedding yours.

I also believe portraits matter.

You do not need to know how to pose or spend an hour performing for the camera. I will help you find flattering light, offer simple direction and create portraits that feel romantic and considered without becoming stiff.

Couple portraits are usually photographed in short periods, often for five or ten minutes at a time. We might take a few photographs after the ceremony, then step outside again briefly as the evening light changes. This gives you variety without removing you from the celebration for a large part of the day.

Family photographs are organised clearly and completed efficiently. You will have the important photographs of the people you love, but your drinks reception will not become a lengthy roll call.

The finished gallery brings everything together: documentary photographs full of movement and feeling, polished portraits, family groups and wider images that show where the wedding took place.

Photographing weddings in the Occitanie light

The light in southern France can be beautiful, but it can also be intense.

An outdoor ceremony may take place while the sun is still high. Guests might then move into a shaded courtyard for drinks, followed by dinner outside as the light softens and the heat begins to ease.

Knowing the region helps me anticipate these changes.

I can advise you on ceremony direction, portrait timings and the best use of shade without forcing the entire wedding to revolve around photography. Sometimes moving a ceremony by a small amount, turning the chairs in a different direction or allowing ten minutes later in the evening can make a considerable difference.

Occitanie also offers wonderful opportunities for portraits with a strong sense of place. An old stone staircase, a shaded cloister, a vineyard path or the scale of a château can become part of the photograph without overwhelming the people within it.

I am always looking for the balance between the couple and their surroundings. The venue should be visible and meaningful, but the photograph must still be about you.

Wedding photography across Hérault

I live near Pézenas and regularly photograph weddings throughout Hérault, including the areas around Béziers, Montpellier and the Mediterranean coast.

Hérault has a particularly varied collection of wedding venues. Within the same department, you can find vineyard estates, historic abbeys, country domaines, private homes and elegant châteaux.

I have photographed weddings at venues including Abbaye de Valmagne, Château St Pierre de Serjac, Seigneurie de Peyrat, Château Les Carrasses and Château Rieutort.

Living locally means I understand the distances between these places and how quickly journey times can increase during the summer. This matters when preparations, the ceremony and reception are taking place at different locations.

I can help you build a realistic photography schedule that allows for travel, changing light and the pace of the wedding without making the day feel over-managed.

Weddings in Aude and Gard

I also photograph weddings throughout Aude, including the areas around Carcassonne and Narbonne.

Aude has a strong mix of vineyards, open countryside, medieval towns and old stone properties. Its wedding venues range from intimate rural domaines to larger châteaux with room for guests to stay for several days.

I have photographed weddings at Château Canet, a vineyard estate near Carcassonne with different settings for each part of the day.

To the east, Gard has its own character, shaped by Roman architecture, pale stone villages, rural estates and its proximity to Provence. Weddings around Nîmes and Uzès can feel visually quite different from those farther west, while retaining the warmth and outdoor character associated with this part of France.

Choosing a wedding venue in Occitanie

A venue affects far more than the appearance of a wedding.

It determines how people move through the day, whether there is enough shade, how far guests must travel and what happens if the weather changes. It can also affect the ceremony light, portrait opportunities and the timing of dinner.

When viewing a venue, consider:

• Which direction the ceremony will face at the planned time
• Whether guests will have shade during hot weather
• How far the preparation rooms are from the ceremony
• Whether the drinks reception and dinner are close together
• What space is available if it rains
• Whether outdoor lighting is already installed
• How long suppliers need to travel between locations
• Whether local noise restrictions affect the evening

Many of the couples I photograph live in the UK, Ireland, the United States or elsewhere overseas.

Planning a wedding in France from another country can make it difficult to judge distances, temperatures, light and how long each part of the day will realistically take.

I am based here, speak English and am fully registered to work professionally in France. I am used to helping couples plan remotely and working alongside French and international venues, planners and suppliers.
