Mas Saint Germain Wedding
Saskia & Murray’s Stormy Celebration
Saskia and Murray’s Mas Saint Germain wedding was unforgettable for all the right reasons — full of beauty, emotion, and one of the most dramatic weather moments I’ve ever experienced during a ceremony.
Tucked into the peaceful hills near Montpellier, Mas Saint Germain is already one of my favourite South of France venues. With its olive groves, panoramic views, and mix of wild countryside and elegance, it’s always a dream to photograph. But this wedding had something extra.

A Ceremony Interrupted by Thunder
The day started beautifully — warm, calm, and full of excitement as Saskia and her bridesmaids got ready inside the old stone house. The ceremony was set up on the lawn, with the Languedoc hills in the distance and a breeze gently lifting the edges of the guests’ orders of service.
But as Saskia walked down the aisle, the skies changed fast. A sudden thunderstorm rolled in with torrential rain and dramatic cracks of thunder. Guests ran for cover, laughing and holding onto their hats as the wedding moved swiftly indoors. The ceremony continued in the estate’s old stone barn, with the sound of rain hammering the roof — loud, wild, and kind of magical. No one will forget it.

Drinks by the Pool Under Blue Skies
As quickly as it arrived, the storm passed. The sun came out and dried everything off, just in time for the drinks reception. Guests gathered by the infinity pool, enjoying the warmth, sipping rosé, and swapping stories about the sudden downpour. It made for an incredible atmosphere — a shared experience that brought everyone closer.
One of the reasons I love a Mas Saint Germain wedding is how flexible the layout is. You’re never far from shelter, and when the light returns, it’s easy to pick up where you left off. There’s no stress — just space, sky, and a quiet kind of luxury.

Portraits Among Olive Trees and Meadows
Later, we wandered the grounds for portraits — through olive grove, quiet meadows, and up along the edge of the path. The light after the storm was rich and golden, and Saskia and Murray looked completely relaxed, like the day had already given them everything they needed.
As always, I kept the session short and easy. My focus is always on capturing real moments, not pulling people away from the fun. At Mas Saint Germain, there are endless spots to shoot without going far — perfect for portraits that feel natural and true.

Dinner, Dancing, and a Wild Ceilidh
Dinner was held in the ballroom — a bright, spacious room that can be styled in lots of different ways. Saskia and Murray went for soft wild florals and round tables. The atmosphere was joyful, warm, and full of stories.
After the meal, the room was cleared for dancing. And not just any dancing — a full-on Ceilidh! The energy was instantly electric. Guests took turns being whirled around the floor, laughing and breathless, the kind of dancing that brings everyone together, no matter their experience.
It was the perfect end to a day that had started with a storm and finished with joy.
