Wedding at The Crypt – The winter wedding of Sarah & Ghislain
A Wedding at The Crypt – The winter wedding of Sarah & Ghislain
I’d been looking forward to shooting Sarah & Ghislain’s wedding at The Crypt, London – the venue is the ideal place for winter weddings in London. It has a wonderful cosy atmosphere and looks amazing in pictures. It takes skill to shoot there, as it’s exceptionally dark, but when you hit it just right, there’s no other place like it.
I met Sarah at her London hotel near London Bridge and shot her preparations. I was once again working with the talented make up artist Sam Winter (she worked with me at the Savoy a couple of weeks ago) and she did a fab job of the girls make up. Winter weddings tend to be more of an evening affair and so very glamorous make-up is a must – if only we could all have Sam on hand during these dreary winter months!
It was also great to be back shooting a wedding at St Etheldreda’s once more. I love this church with it’s moody lighting and stunning stained glass windows, it’s a pleasure to shoot there.
As Sarah and Ghislain’s wedding at The Crypt did not start until 4.30pm and the majority of my coverage was shot completely in the dark. I know shooting winter weddings are difficult because of this but I really enjoy rising to a challenge. I love to create something dramatic and romantic. For the couples portrait session, I used a variety of techniques to achieve lots of different looks to the couple’s pictures. Off camera flash to back light the couple and street lighting for mood.
Sarah chose Christmas ball-balls as her favours for the girls – I love mine and it’s proudly dangling from my tree. What a lovely way to remember Sarah & Ghislain’s beautiful day every year.
Here’s some of my favourite pictures from their wedding at the Crypt…
Congratulations Sarah & Ghislain!
