The Ned Wedding – City of London
The Ned Wedding – Alexandra & James’s City of London Wedding
Wow, The Ned! What an amazing venue. The old disused Midland bank building is now a beautiful 5-Star hotel. It’s kind of hard to describe, in anyway that would do it justice, just how incredible a space it is. The sheer scale of the place is mind-blowing. I absolutely love shooting there! The Ned Wedding of Alexandra and James was so cool to photograph. Alexandra and James wanted me to really capture the spirit of their day. The personalities of their guests, the story of the day. They also wanted a few beautiful portraits but didn’t want to spend too much time away from their guests, the portraits shot below took 15 minutes. My wingman on this wedding was my amazing second photographer Mark Wallis.
The Ned Wedding Preparations
While I was with the girls, Mark was photographing the guys. If you are both getting ready at the same time, it’s the easiest way to cover both stories. Alexandra was very relaxed, sitting out on her terrace at The Ned while her make-up artist worked away. I loved photographing Alex, she was easy-peasy to shoot and we got along really well. Most guests think I’m a friend of the couple, rather than a hired hand, I like to blend into a wedding day, to take photographs that really tell the story of the day, you need to be an insider and not an outsider. People need to feel comfortable in your presence and trust you to get on with your job.
The Ned Wedding Ceremony
One of the great things about photographing city of London weddings is the registrars! Unlike registrars in other parts of the country, they are really very accommodating. Mark and I could shoot whatever we wanted. I stayed at the front to capture the wonderful ceremony and Mark shot from the back.
The Ned Wedding Reception
After the ceremony was complete the guests poured out onto one of the two terraces and enjoyed Champagne and canapés in the sunshine. We used the other terrace for the handful of groups pictures, these were shot in 15 minutes. I like to shoot groups and portraits quickly, so you maximise the amount of time you have with your guests.
The Ned Wedding Photography
The portraits we shot of Alex and James were shot in about 15 minutes. Some beautiful relaxed pictures on the terrace with St Paul’s cathedral in the background and then we used the amazing corridors upstairs. They were clean and white; perfect for elegant, relaxed images.
Here are some of my favourites from their Ned Wedding…
Congratulations Alexandra & James. It was a pleasure shooting your day.
