When I heard about Kiran and Rob’s plans for their wedding in Basingstoke I was really excited!  A two day affair with a small intimate, family gathering on the first day and a larger more extravagant one held at The Vynes, Hampshire on the second.

The first day was a register office wedding followed by a barbecue at the bride’s parents house.  I thought it was a lovely touch that the couple even decided to show the FA Cup final!

Kiran and Rob had really thought about what they wanted out of the two days and everything went really well.

The mix of ethnicity made it very interesting to shoot visually.  The colours were stunning and just added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Day two was the couple’s Indian wedding.  It’s no secret that I love shooting Indian weddings – the sentiment, the meanings of the different parts, the warmth and love of the family who surround the couple, it all adds up to a beautiful thing to be a part of!

Here are some of my favourite pictures shot over the two day period.  I had such fun with Kiran and Rob and wish them a very happy married life together – they certainly started it in an amazing way!

Day Two…..

Jamie and Natasha tied the knot in one of my favourite places in the entire world – Railay Beach in Thailand.  I shot the wedding of Kirsty and Dan last year at the stunning Rayavadee Resort and it just so happened that Jamie and Natasha had chosen the same place for their wedding.

They wanted to share their celebrations with their friends and relations when they got back home and so held a huge party in Surbiton.  I met Natasha at her hotel and as we had lots of time, we shot some beautiful portraits before going downstairs to see Jamie.

We then all went to the park to take some pictures, as the couple had not had too many taken together in Thailand and Natasha had on a different dress – a gorgeous Ian Stewart creation.  They were great to work with and we had a lot of fun before it was time to leave for the wedding party.

At the party the drinks flowed and the music pumped out until the wee hours.  Friends and family danced the night away!

Congratulations Natasha & Jamie!

Charlotte and Kavinda’s South Farm Wedding was full of joy and happiness.  It was an amazing day to photograph.  The couple were really relaxed and this translated to the planning of their whole day.

I loved how Charlotte and Kavinda decided to mix their two cultures together in their wedding ceremony, drawing on both to create something really unique and very personal to them.  The ceremony music was created by two generous guests and really added to the atmosphere.  Kavinda made his entrance into the wedding ceremony to accompanying drummers.

The ceremony it’s self was full of emotion and the feeling of warmth and family was all around Charlotte and Kavinda.

I’ve not photographed a South Farm Wedding before and I loved the amount of variety that could be found there for pictures.  Even though it was early March and we did not have a great selection of flowers there’s was plenty of eye candy.  The Romany gypsy caravans, the interesting buildings, plants and colours all gave me loads to work with.  Charlotte and Kavinda made around 15 minutes for me to take some beautiful portraits of them on the wedding day.  We had lots of fun!

I was so pleased when Vanessa contacted me to cover her 40th birthday party at The Horniman Museum near Dulwich.  I shot her stunning wedding to Tom at Painshill Park (featured in Cosmo Bride).  It was great to see them both again.

Vanessa had planned a very stylish birthday party – a masked ball.  All her guest wore elegant black tie evening wear with the most creative masks.   They sipped on gorgeous cocktails while enjoying the ambience of the The Horniman Museum  - which was all lit up in pink and red.  It looked amazing.

It was gorgeous weather for Alex and Catherine’s wedding at The Priory Christchurch, one of those cold bright days you often get at this time of year.  Low winter sunlight and a dusting of snow on the ground made it a stunning day to take pictures.  Winter weddings don’t get much better than this!

I’d been excited to photograph their wedding at The Priory Christchurch as it’s one of my favourite parts of the world.  The couple had planned to tie the knot at The Priory and then head to Rhinefield House Hotel in the heart of the New Forest for their wedding reception.

The Priory is such a stunning church to photograph in.  The church is huge and light was great and their vicar very kindly allowed me to shoot from the front which is always the best place to capture all the emotions and expressions during the service.

I loved their service – it was crammed full of smiles and emotions and some of my favourite hymns were sung.  The best part though was the looks exchanged between Alex and Catherine.  It was a real pleasure to shoot, especially the amazing sequence of images when Catherine walked down the aisle with her father.

I really hope I get the opportunity to shoot a wedding at The Priory Christchurch again, it has to be one of my favourite ever churches!

After the beautiful ceremony at The Priory in Christchurch (to view the images click here), the couple laid on a stunning reception at the gorgeous Rhinefield House Hotel in the heart of the New Forest.

As a Rhinefield House wedding photographer you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to locations but it’s not often a couple gets snow on their wedding day and I really wanted to make the most of their chosen location in the New Forest.  I had driven through the forest and seen so many beautiful spots of pictures that we decided to leave the hotel and set off into the the forest.

I love shooting romantic images on a wedding day and Alex and Catherine were really great to shoot – very relaxed and happy to spend 15 minutes having some pictures taken.  I loved that we even found some new forest pony’s!

I loved being their Rhinefield House wedding photographer – the venue is truly stunning and the staff were lovely.  The guests were treated to an amazing meal and after the excellent speeches danced the night away.

I’ve shot Wedding Photography at St.Michael’s Manor Hotel before and love it as a venue.  It’s the perfect mix of relaxed modern charm and traditional comfort.  The grounds are pretty and have lots of scope for photography even in winter.

Don and Emma tied the knot in the bright conservatory in front of close friends and family.  I loved Emma’s pretty lace dress – perfect for her.  Don and Emma smiled the whole day long and were an absolute pleasure to photograph.  I loved how they fused their two cultures together to create something really meaningful for both of them.

I’ve photographed weddings at The George in Rye on many occasions and it’s no secret to readers of this blog that it’s one of my favourite venues to shoot, not just because the venue itself is stunning but also the incredible surroundings.  I was however, even more excited to shoot there this time when I heard of Louise’s and James’s plans to have some pictures taken on the nearby beach of Camber Sands.

Their wedding at The George in Rye was held in the gorgeous ballroom, it was the first time I’d shot a ceremony at the George (I’m usually up the hill in the town hall!) it was great to photograph – lovely light, lots of room and the registrar could not have been more helpful and accommodating.  The other fantastic benefit of holding the ceremony there was immediately following the wedding, we were able to use the space for group pictures.

I usually go for a walk around Rye with my couples when it comes to shooting some beautiful portraits of the two of them but had always longed to head down to the beach and take some pictures, it hadn’t been possible on previous occasions manly due to time.  But the photography was so important to Louise and James, they decided to set aside three quarters of an hour to drive to the beach, take some stunning pictures and then drive back to the party.  I was really looking forward it but also a little nervous – after all the couple’s wedding was just before Christmas and winter weddings are always noted for their sunshine!

We were so incredibly lucky and struck gold with the weather – there was not a cloud in the sky and it was very mild.  Louise did not even need a coat!  It was strange being on Camber Sands, being relatively local, I’d spent many a happy day as a child playing with a bucket and spade on that particular stretch.  What a fantastic location for a post wedding shoot.  The light was superb and Louise and James were brilliant to work with – they enjoyed the time on their own away from their guests and we had a lot of fun creating some very unique images.

We then rushed back to the party and I captured all the events in a completely unscripted way from then on.

My last wedding of the year was certainly one I won’t forget in hurry – Any wedding at The George in Rye is special but what made Louise’s and James’s so great was the trust they put in me to create something really different for them.

Catherine and Dom’s stunning Fulham Palace Wedding was something I’d been looking forward to and it certainly didn’t disappoint.  Not only was Catherine a truly gorgeous bride but her choices and attention to detail were superb.  I adored her Caroline Castigliano gown.

Winter weddings can be tough, it gets dark very early, it’s freezing cold and pictures often have to take place inside.  After the Catherine and Dom’s church ceremony, it was completely dark – so all of the pictures from that point were shot inside.  When shooting winter weddings it’s imperative for a photographer to have a good grasp of lighting techniques.

Shooting during darkness inside  also requires much more imagination than a beautiful summer day does.  Catherine had made a great decision in hiring the incredible  Effect Event who lit the whole palace beautifully.  I then balanced their colourful ambient lighting with my flash gun and played away.   I used a plain corridor to create a feeling of drama and concentrated on the lighting and the pose of the couple.  I hope you enjoy the results!

Once again, the caterers Bovingdon’s did a brilliant job – they really don’t ever fail to impress.

I shot Emma’s sister’s wedding in July and it was so fantastic to see the whole family again.  I was so impressed with Newick Park, it’s a beautiful venue and I’m really hoping I get the chance to shoot there again.  Often at winter weddings when guests must stay inside, its cramped and hot during the drinks reception but at Emma and Tom’s Newick Park Wedding there was plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy.

The couples ceremony was very moving and I felt honoured to be there.  Emma and Tom are such a lovely couple – it was so amazing to see them exchange vows and become husband and wife.

Emma’s attention to detail was fantastic and everything looked and ran wonderfully.

I loved – Emma’s dress and her pretty table plan.  The candle lit feel was perfect for her December wedding.
