I have had a love for the English seaside ever since my art college days at Bournemouth – I met my fiance there and thoughts of those heady days of a romance by the sea still make me smile.
So the prospect of shooting a seaside wedding was really exciting and I’d been looking forward to shooting Katie and Rob’s wedding for ages. I decided to take a trip to the Boatyard in Essex a couple of months ago to scope out the location and in the process, sample their amazing food. It’s one of those venues you don’t come across every day; modern yet quirky and with a view to die for. I often crave eating somewhere with a great view – it somehow adds to the whole experience and it was lovely to discover that their food is as fantastic as the view! Katie told me that was one of the reasons they chose it.
The wedding took place at a little church in Leigh-on-Sea and afterwards everyone made their way to The Boatyard for drinks out on the deck overlooking the Thames estuary. Katie’s styling blew me away. The choice of sunflowers was inspired and with a clear, bright blue sky it was sunny inside and out. I also managed to steal Katie and Rob away from their guests for 15 minutes to take some pretty pictures in the sand.
Here are some favourites…

I love this picture of Katie

How cool is that view!

All Katie and Rob’s tables were named after plants and flowers. Katie told me she was a keen gardener and she had also given little packets of wild flower seeds to her guests as favours. Her love for flowers was reflected in her styling and even the cake was bursting with colour.

Congratulations Katie & Rob! Enjoy the Maldives!
