Wedding Photography Rye, East Sussex – Katie & Ian at The George Inn, Rye

I’m a huge fan of Rye and in particular The George Inn, its such a gorgeous place, very relaxing and comfortable.  Whenever I get some free time I escape to Rye and book in at The George – it’s the perfect place to recharge your batteries.

Katie and Ian’s tied the knot at the town hall, which is a short walk up the hill from The George.  With its huge windows, it’s a great location to shoot and I love the feel of the place.  A wedding in Rye has such charm, local people stop what they are doing to have a look (the people in the pie shop – “Simon the Pieman” stopped serving to take a look at the newlyweds) and others gather around as the town crier announces the marriage on the steps of the town hall.  We wandered off for some shots in the cobbled lanes and the town crier waited for us patiently, so he could lead the couple down the hill to their waiting guests at The George.

Katie and Ian were such a lovely couple, really relaxed and happy.  The whole day had a really lovely vibe to it and this, I’m sure, was testament to them as a couple.  I know a lot of brides follow this blog and my advice to those planning a wedding is: plan it, then when the day arrives, enjoy it!  There’s nothing more you can do and what will be, will be.  The best weddings are always those that have a happy couple at the center.

Here are some of my favourites (it’s a bigger blog post than normal – to keep you going over Christmas!)

Pretty shoes!

Katie’s “something borrowed” were these beautiful earings

The bridesmaids dresses were from Coast

Katie wore a stunning Jenny Packham number

Married!

Who would have thought it was December!

These favours were delicious French macaroons

The cup cakes were really tasty – Katie packed me off with a little bag containing two of the delights. They were to die for!

Cup cakes by The Primrose Bakery

The room looked so Christmassy!

This shot really does not tell the story of how it was obtained – I had to crawl through the back of the laundry cupboard to get onto the balcony.  Bizarre!

Congratulations Ian & Katie!  Enjoy Hawaii!

December 15, 2009 - 8:15 am Hester Marriott - Kerry your work is STUNNING. I love your blog - and this is my first time commenting... I just have to know how you manage to get such beautiful crisp images in what appears to be a setting with little or no light... lens or camera? or both?! No sign of on camera flash which makes all the shots so soft, intimate, romantic - would love to know how you do it. Thanks!

December 15, 2009 - 10:58 am Kerry Morgan - Thanks Hester! I think its looking for the light that's there. I like directional light and back light particularly. My favourite lens is the 24-70mm F2.8, I do have a nice 50mm F1.2 but I only seem to pull it out the bag when I'm shooting in disco lighting. I also use my 70-200mm F2.8 for the couples portraits, I love this lens for this purpose. I tend to use it in the ceremony as well, depending on the size of the room. I know some folk think its too heavy to lug around and is too obtrusive but to be honest, its all about where you use it and how you act when you're using it! I hope that helps and thanks again for your kind words. xx

December 16, 2009 - 8:45 am Hester Marriott - Thanks Kerry. I have that lens too, but perhaps have just not been brave enough to use it in low light conditions. Something to try! Didn't think even 2.8 was enough when it's pretty much dark.. Still on tenterhooks to see who you choose as your own wedding photographer! Hester

January 10, 2010 - 7:24 pm Hazel - Gorgeous work capturing all those great expressions. I think the one of the two of them walking away down the road is my fav!
