I have spent so much time in the beautiful town of Rye; it’s a personal favourite of mine and so it was really exciting to be back there to shoot Annabel and Matt’s day. With its tiny, winding cobbled lanes and oak beamed houses, it’s dripping in antiquarian atmosphere. Wandering along its pretty lanes in the low winter light and the smell of coal fires on the breeze you can easily be reminded of a time long since past.
The George Inn is such a fantastic place to stay, they get the mix just right between comfort and style and whenever I stay there, I find it very hard to leave! You can chill out in their big comfortable chairs and read the papers whilst sipping on a local ale and hide from the world, if only for an afternoon.
It was thrilling to me to be back in Rye this time to photograph Annabel and Matt’s wedding. The day started at The George where I photographed Annabel and her sisters getting ready. I then made my way up the hill to The Old Town Hall where Matt was waiting patiently with his bestman and ushers. The ceremony room was packed to the rafters with guests looking on as Matt and Annabel exchanged vows in what turned out to be a very emotional occasion. The couple left with their very cute little son Rory in Annabel’s arms.
It is traditional in Rye for those who marry at the Town Hall to have their marriage announced to the town by the Town Crier. He’s a lovely chap and told me he’d been married in the town hall some 54 years earlier – what a good omen for the couple! After his announcement he led the guests down the hill to The George Inn for the champagne reception.
Annabel, Matt and I dissapeared for 10 minutes for a few pictures down the pretty cobbled lanes.
Here are a few of my favourite pictures of the day…

Annabel and Matt’s wedding was held on Halloween and their favours were these chocolate treats. The couple also kept the children entertained with scary masks and witches hats hung from the backs of their chairs.

The tables were all either famous Shaws or famous Watts (the bride and groom’s surnames)

Congratulations Annabel & Matt – enjoy your break in The Lakes
If you were a guest at their wedding you can register to see the pictures once the bride and groom have seen them by clicking HERE.
