October has certainly been an incredible month weather wise and Rachel & Richard were blessed with the perfect autumn day. This season is so amazing to shoot, the colours of the tumbling autumn leaves make the perfect backdrop for pictures. It can be a challenge shooting in autumn and winter, the low lighting conditions throw up all sorts of issues but its one of favourite times of year to be a wedding photographer.
My day started at the Cathedral, in particular the Lady Chapel. I’d never shot at St Albans Cathedral before (although I did remember taking a school trip here when I was about 10!). It was really gorgeous inside and the two gentlemen vergers were very helpful. Everyone was a little bit panicked as the police had shut the anti-clockwise stretch of the M25 and some of Rachel’s family were caught up in the ensuing jam. Luckily they made it in time for the service. I was really grateful that I’d upgraded my Tom Tom to the latest one with live traffic updates, it had spotted the problem as soon as I’d set off and taken me around the M25 in the opposite direction (another reason I always leave double the time I think the journey will take – you never know!)
The service was lovely and despite being told initially I would not be allowed to take pictures, the lady vicar was generous and allowed me to shoot from the back. After the service the wedding party headed to the reception at St Michael’s Manor Hotel and Richard and Rachel and I headed off for 15 minutes to have some wedding photographs of the two of them. The colour of the trees combined with the delicate light on the lake was really stunning.
Here are some of my favourite pictures of the day.

Rachel waits at the entrance of the cathedral with her brother before he walks her down the aisle.

I love this picture of Richard & Rachel!

Congratulations Rachel & Richard – enjoy Paris!
